During Strawberry Festival weekend in Chassell a quilt show was held to benefit the animals cared for by the Copper Country Humane Society. This was the seventh consecutive year for the show, which is organized by the Portage Quilt House with significant support from the Portage Quilters quilting group and Superior Stitchers quilting guild. This year’s show experienced record attendance with close to 350 people viewing the exhibits. Over 100 items created by regional quilters and fabric artists were on display. This year’s Viewers Choice honors went to Nancy Henderson of Marquette for her quilt called Colorwheel Threadplay. Since 2005 this annual show has raised over $15,000 for the homeless animals cared for by CCHS. We have applied these funds to advance our spay and neuter efforts and to provide shelter and medical care for the hundreds of dogs and cats that pass through our shelter’s doors each year. In addition to thanking the quilters for their tremendous investment of time to produce the show, we would like to thank each person who attended, the many hardworking volunteers who assisted with setup, staffing, and takedown, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell for providing space for the show and Superior Rent-All and Sales for their excellent service and great equipment rental rates. Thank you all for giving of yourselves to assist our community’s homeless pets.
