CCHS ANNUAL REPORT – Fiscal Year – 2011-2012
On behalf of CCHS, we would like to extend our deep appreciation to all the adopters, volunteers, staff, visitors, businesses, donors and incredible support we receive which allow us to continue to provide a safe haven for over 900 animals each year. It really is a team effort and we thank you all for being part of a great team that helps animals. Thank you!
FINANCE COMMITTEE
A huge thank you to our Treasurer, Teresa Woods for all of her hard work in making sure shelter bills are paid on time, monthly and annual reports are ready for review and all tax paperwork is prepared (amongst many other things). Thank you for always looking for ways to help our financial status by researching ways to save money on things like insurance. Also, thank you to Edith Snortland and Karen Dugdale for all of your dedication and efforts. We could not do this without the three of you and the organizational skills and time put forth by all three of these ladies is very much appreciated. CCHS has been fortunate to continue having success in our fundraisers; the Bash was very successful once again, as was the Brockway Photography pet photos. In December the Bluffs Senior Living Community hosted a Frosty Fest to support CCHS which was an event that was new for us. Dave and Diana Stimac (Nature’s Way Woodworking”) incredible donation of a 5th Bird’s Eye & Gem coffee table was a great fundraising raffle to end the year. The shelter converted from propane to natural gas late last summer and we look forward to increased savings in regards to winter heating costs. Thank you to Robin Stimac for researching this endlessly and presenting the board with continuous new information to make this transition as smooth as possible. We have had an amazing year and appreciate the efforts and cooperation of all of those that have donated, volunteered and supported CCHS.
SHELTER COMMITTEE
Thank you to all of the members of the shelter committee who are dedicated not only to maintaining the standards at the shelter but also for finding ways to improve every aspect of CCHS. Thank you to our Shelter Manager, Lindsay Clouthier for everything she does for the shelter and for being so dedicated to the animals, whether on or off the clock. Thanks to the wonderful staff that are committed to doing the best job possible for CCHS and the animals. The shelter continues to have a wonderful volunteer turn-out at nearly every open shift and adoptions have been high. In December, CCHS hosted a cat special and adopted over 30 cats to new homes, many of which were cats that would most likely have been overlooked at other times. Student at Michigan Tech University have taken steps to create a new student organization to help CCHS with fundraising and events. While not much will be done over the summer months, we look forward to the fall and are excited at the ideas coming from this group.
CCHS relies on many local veterinarians and clinics, including Animal Medical Center of Marquette, Copper Country Vet Clinic, Northland Vet Clinic and Dr. Kathe McMullan, to help care for the injured and sick animals we rescue and are instrumental in sterilizing all our animals prior to adoption. A special thank you to Dr. McMullan for her continued vet care for shelter animals and for helping out twice a year at our vaccination clinics. We are extremely grateful to all of the volunteers who transport animals back and forth to any of the vet clinics and to all of the volunteers who spend countless hours walking dogs, helping in the office, working at fundraisers and doing whatever they are asked to do. While all of our volunteers are appreciated, special recognition must be given to Carla Belopavlovich who is a very important part of the shelter “family.” She spends countless volunteer hours assisting at the shelter and outside of the shelter when she is able. Another asset to the shelter is Roger Woods, who volunteers his time to maintain and repair our facility. Thank you Carla and Roger!

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The education committee continues to do vaccination clinics twice per year and they are always successful. Our most recent clinic gave over 550 vaccinations! The committee is currently making plans to get some education in the local elementary schools via the Kind News, published by the Humane Society of the United States. Grant opportunities are being researched to assist in covering all or part of the cost of the newsletter. The committee would also like to set up classroom visits to speak to children about animal care and is planning for this to take place beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. Thank you to the committee members for all that you do!
WEBSITE/NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE
Thanks to Board Member Lynn Makela and her company, Jelyco, CCHS’ new website went live this past summer and has been an immense success. The sponsorship area of the website has generated over $3,000.00 in donations and continues to be popular with visitors to the site. LeRita Allert continues to write wonderful articles and put together all of the CCHS newsletters that go out each year, which in turn bring in a lot of donations for the shelter. She is always open to new story/article ideas. Thank you to everyone on this committee for all the hard work!
Respectfully Submitted,
Becki Clouthier, CCHS Secretary
- Special thanks to Becki Clouthier for her incredible secretarial skills that keeps all our “I”’s dotted and “T’s” crossed. She devotes much time and effort to ensure all the minutes are taken, typed and available, she is instrumental in organizing the bi-annual vaccination clinic and assists weekly to help promote adoptions by sharing all these great animal photos and bios with the public on our Facebook page, website and Petfinder.
