CCHS 10th Annual Bash Fundraiser

HOUGHTON, Michigan (July 8, 2014) – Live and silent auctions, basket raffles and a prize wheel that makes you a winner with every spin – these are just a few of the exciting activities taking place during the Copper Country Humane Society’s (CCHS) upcoming Bash fundraiser.

The Bash takes place from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at the shelter, located within Nara Nature Park in Houghton. The live auction – featuring over 75 different items that include Detroit Pistons tickets, a golf and cabin stay at Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, car care packages, spa services, and much more – gets underway at 1 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a free hot dog, pop and cookies, and enter their names in one of many themed-basket raffles. New this year is a silent auction that will run in parallel with the event.

“This year we’ve done more bundling of items into packages and also diverted a select group of items to a silent auction that will run simultaneously with the live auction,” said Bash Chairperson Teresa Woods. “We wanted to offer the same amazing variety and quantity of items, but cut back on the length of the auction time and keep the energy high throughout the day.”

Silent auction items include Ed Gray pottery, a guided kayak tour of Porter’s Island for two by Keweenaw Adventure Company, handmade amethyst and rainbow fluorite jewelry by Missy LaFernier, and an Up North Mittens gift basket, among many others. There are more than 25 gift basket raffles ($1 per ticket or 30 for $20). There will be a $500 cash prize raffle with only 52 tickets being sold at $20 each. The prize wheel is $1 per spin. Every spin wins.

Woods said many local businesses contribute auction items and make donations year after year to help make the annual fundraiser a success. All funds raised benefit the homeless animals cared for by CCHS.

“We serve three counties in the Upper Peninsula – Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw – and every year we’re so impressed with how many of our supporters are the same businesses willing to help us out,” she said. “That’s why we end up with such a long list of really great auction items. We couldn’t do it without their support.”

Parking during the Bash will be available at Ferrellgas and the Nara Nature Park trailhead. Student athletes from Michigan Technological University will be providing a golf cart shuttle service from the bottom of the hill to the shelter and back down.
