When my boyfriend and I moved to Houghton last year, we decided that we needed to add a furry friend to our home. Prior to visiting, I had seen Murphy online and fell in love with him. Determined to go and meet him, we immediately visited the shelter shortly after we moved in. When we visited the shelter we not only got to meet Murphy being greeted with a happy “meow,” we were greeted by a fluffy tortiseshell cat who jumped in our laps when we squatted down to say hi. We were smitten. Lily (AKA Beatrice) pretty much asked to take her home and we weren’t going to turn her down. At first, we were only planning on taking Lily home, but after we heard about how long Murphy had been at CCHS, we couldn’t leave him there. We brought them home together and Lily immediately made herself at home, whereas Murphy took a bit longer to get used to the change in scenery. But now he’s made himself at home.. in particular our recliner which is now solely his and Lily’s. I can’t imagine how life would be without our silly, crazy cats. Whether it’s Murphy waking us up well before the alarm goes off to kindly remind us to feed him (as if we forget on a daily basis) or Lily running laps around the apartment at 4:30am, the loss of sleep is worth it for the fun and love they have.
Murphy and Lily have made themselves a part of our family and were even so kind to let us adopt our third furry friend, Jane, a black lab mix also from CCHS. We had seen Jane on the website and were just planning on meeting her. Well, here we are 9 months later and she’s made a spot for herself in our hearts and on our couch. Jane is such a sweetheart and a smarty pants. In her short time with us (even though it feels like she’s been with us forever), she’s already learned plenty of tricks (Jane knows how to roll over, sit pretty, and bow to name a few things) and is best friends with Lily. Jane has rounded out our family very well and, like the cats, I don’t know what I would do without her. Jane isn’t ever too far behind you and always listens (well if there isn’t another dog or person walking by…). She’s also the best running partner on four legs (even if she tries to trip me). Jane helps me train for road races all the time.
I’ve probably said it so much throughout this, but all three of our furry “kids” have added so much love and fun to our lives. Always having three friends at home, impatiently waiting your return makes everyday much better. I’m looking forward to the many years we have ahead with them.
Thank you CCHS for letting my boyfriend and I adopt Murphy, Lily, and Jane.
