I first met Puka the first time I had ever walked into Copper Country Humane Society. Even back then she was the biggest loudmouth I had ever met, and just as loving.
It took me a year to do it, but I finally adopted her and brought her home. Though, when I think about it, I think she adopted me long before I ever thought of adopting her. And while she was the first cat I ever adopted, she wasn\’t the last. Soon we were joined by Leon and Spooky.
After nearly a year I moved to Adrian and rented a place with a roommate. We lived there about a year when my roommate ended up losing his job and I found that with how little I was making I could not afford rent on my own. At that point I had to make the unbearably hard choice of rehousing two of my cats, or end up on the street with all three with no means to take care of any of them.
I chose the former and managed to find Leon and Spooky great homes where I have been told they are doing great. I moved into the only place I could afford with Puka (they only allowed 1 pet) where after a year I am still at.
Puka has been doing great. Even with being 9 years old, she is still very active and loves to play. All my friends and family adore her and think she is the cutest cat they have ever seen.
She is still very much a loudmouth (earning her the very appropriate nicknames of Mouth and Brat), and constantly walks around carrying her toys and meowing. She has recently been to the vet and has come back with a clean bill of health and many complements on how sweet she is. She absolutely LOVES to cuddle and watch movies with me. In fact, she loves to cuddle so much, I have been forbidden to read or sit on my phone while in her presence.
Puka is my best friend and the light of my life. She is always there–night and day– no matter what mood I am in. She is spoiled rotten. She has her own bed, half of mine, a very nice cat tree, too many toys to count, and gets great food and treats. And even though she does sometime annoy me when I am trying to get something done, and acts like the world should bow at her feet, I love her to death and wouldn\’t have her any other way.
I am so grateful to have her in my life and want to thank Copper Country for that. I also want to say sorry that I was not able to keep Spooky and Leon, but want to say that I did what I did with their best interest in mind. If there was anyway I could have kept them, I would have.
Thank you again for allowing me to adopt Puka. She is a great cat. I honestly do not know what I would do without her.
