The Copper Country Humane Society would like to thank all of the individuals who made this year’s Strawberry Festival Quilt Show such a successful benefit for the animals. This was the ninth consecutive year for the show, which is put on by the Portage Quilt House, the Portage Quilters quilting group, Superior Stitchers quilting guild, and other area quilters. More than 250 guests viewed this year’s exhibits which included over 100 examples of traditional, contemporary, and art quilts. Each guest was allowed to cast one ballot for their favorite quilt. Carm Meyers’ quilt “Always” was the top vote-getter. Three entries tied for second place: “Alaskan Dreams” by Jackie Barna, “Pastel Crazy Quilt” by Beegu Keranen, and “Merry Christmas” by Judy (Stallings) Zei. Congratulations to these talented women. In addition to thanking the quilters for their tremendous investment of time to produce the show, we would like to thank each person who attended, the many hardworking volunteers who assisted with organization, setup, staffing, and takedown, all who donated items to the quilter’s rummage sale, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell for providing space for the show and Superior Events for their great equipment rental rates. CCHS will apply the show’s proceeds to continue our spay and neuter efforts and to provide shelter and medical care for the nearly 900 dogs and cats that pass through our shelter’s doors each year. Thank you all for giving of yourselves to assist our community’s homeless pets.
