In April of 2009, CCHS joined the Hill’s Science Diet Shelter Nutrition Program to help resolve food issues for our shelter animals. Hill’s Science Diet provides the food FREE for ALL of the animals housed at the shelter. We only have to pay shipping on all the Hills Science Diet products we order which results in this food costing about 50% less than most popular brands including Purina and Diamond. This program has helped save CCHS money on food, vet care and the difference in the animal’s health has been unbelievable. Animals no longer suffer from intestinal issues due to food changes.
Another benefit to the program is that the shelter is provided with free 5lb bags of food to give to all our adopters. This ensures that when a new pet has to face all the changes that come with a new home, their diet stays consistent or can be changed gradually to avoid intestinal upset in their new home.
