October is “Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month”! In honor of all the wonderful dogs that have been adopted, including the special needs, seniors and shy dogs – CCHS would like to launch our “Yellow Ribbon Leash Campaign”. This is a nation wide effort to help educate people about dogs. If you see a dog with a yellow ribbon or something yellow on the leash, this is a dog who needs some space. PLEASE do not approach this dog or its people with your dog. They are indicating that their dog cannot be near other dogs. How close is too close? Only the dog or his people know, so maintain distance or give them time to get out of your way.
There are many reasons why a dog may need space:
- Health or behavior, recovering from illness or injury
- Training for service
- Rehabilitation of abused or neglected dogs – the world can be scary for dogs who have been abused.
- NOT all dogs like other dogs or like to be sniffed by other dogs.
THANK YOU – from all owners and foster parents helping ALL dogs live happier, safer lives.
